PCC congratulates Bee Unique winners at the Diverse Cumbria Awards
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Peter McCall congratulates local charity Bee Unique, this year’s winners of the Community Award at The Diverse Cumbria Awards on Saturday at the Halston Hotel, Carlisle.
Bee Unique helps to relieve the needs of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition and their families/carers, by organising support and social events across Cumbria. Other shortlisted groups for the Organisation Champion award were Cumbria Deaf Association and Barrow’s community interest company, A Stitch Different. The evening also saw Alan Rankin from Sellafield Ltd presented for the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to diversity and inclusion.
PCC Peter McCall comments: “Each year, the Diverse Cumbria Awards showcase local charities, role models and community champions and celebrate their outstanding commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion across the county.
“Events such as these, are a great way for people to come together and share an evening celebrating inclusion and respect.
“Here in Cumbria, we have such a wealth of inspirational charities and local groups, who help to keep our rural community networks thriving and well connected. We should sing the praises of all those people, who give tremendous amounts of their time, so willingly, for the benefit of others.
“It is thanks to them that Cumbria is one of the most welcoming places for people to live, work and travel to.”
Nadia Parsons, Trustee and Co-Founder of Bee Unique Charity comments: “Bee Unique are delighted to have received the award for Organisation Champion. To receive this recognition after just 18 months is amazing. Ourselves and our amazing volunteers, do this for the children and families we support but this really adds to making it all worthwhile.
“We will proudly hold our award as a mark of our achievement and will continue to encourage all individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition, their families and carers, to embrace their differences, be unique and celebrate their own kind of beautiful.”
