Nominations for Police and Crime Commissioner Community Awards Open

Peter McCall, Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, launched the nominations for his PCC Community Awards on Tuesday 1 October.

The awards aim to celebrate the incredible work of those across Cumbria who help keep their community safe in either a professional or voluntary manner.

Speaking on the awards, Peter McCall, said: “I genuinely believe that strong communities and the police working together is the most effective way to make Cumbria an even safer place to live.

“We are fortunate that in our county there are so many people who volunteer in hundreds of different roles and these awards are a small way to celebrate and thank those who really go above and beyond to make their area a better place to live, whether it is as part of their job or as a volunteer.

“I, therefore, would like to urge everyone to have a think about those they know – friends, family, colleagues etc. – and nominate anyone they think deserves to be recognised for all their hard work.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us all to say thank you to our volunteers across Cumbria, of course not everyone can win but I wish everyone the best of luck with their nominations, and ‘win lose or draw’ thank everyone who volunteers their time in any capacity for the good of our communities and our county.”

The awards categories are:

  • “Community Safety Hero Award” – Outstanding Citizen
  • “Safer Superhero Award” – Outstanding Young Citizen (under 18 only)
  • “Outstanding Community Project Award” – Outstanding Community Project
  • “Heart of the Community Award” – Outstanding Volunteer Award
  • “Above and Beyond Award” – Outstanding Team or Outstanding Professional

Nominations are open to individuals and teams from across the community, voluntary or business sectors, where an outstanding contribution has been made to improve community safety, prevent crime, protect vulnerable people and supporting the objectives within the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan.

Anyone can submit a nomination including managers, colleagues or members of the public who have benefitted or witnessed the efforts of individuals and teams.

The closing date for nominations is Monday 18th November at 12pm.
