PCC Attends Launch of Gateway 4 Women Centre in Carlisle
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall will join the Mayor and Mayoress of Carlisle, Chief Executive of Cumbria County Council Katherine Fairclough, and staff from Cumbria Gateway for the launch of ‘Gateway 4 Women’ in Denton Holme, Carlisle, on Thursday 12 October.
‘Gateway 4 Women’ is a centre for women that will offer a safe, welcoming environment to encourage and help women to unlock their own potential. The ‘one-stop-shop’ will bring a range of services together under one roof in the centre of Carlisle.
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall said: “I am so pleased to see the launch of this Centre, as I believe it is so important to provide the more vulnerable in our communities with the resources and knowledge to enable them to have the skills and confidence to improve their lives.
“I hear many success stories from women who have been given similar opportunities, and they have been able to turn their lives around.
“I firmly believe in ‘we, not they’. In other words, if we all take some responsibility and work with and support each other, it is possible to make a difference to lives in our communities. I believe that ‘Gateway 4 Women’ very much epitomises this vision.”
The Centre aims to provide a holistic approach to women’s health and well-being with an emphasis on supporting and empowering, working to ensure that they can achieve their potential, develop their assets and skills and live safe, healthy and prosperous lives. Women will be able to access a wide range of support groups along with training and volunteering opportunities.
