PCC welcomes the latest volunteer police cadets  

Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner welcomes the latest 35 police cadets to the Constabulary’s volunteer family at the attestation evening, in the Roundthorn Hotel on Tuesday evening, 15 November.

The Volunteer Police Cadet scheme gives young people an opportunity to be part of the nationally recognised police uniformed youth group. The programme develops leadership, communication skills and provides a large variety of opportunities for the volunteer cadets to support their local community.

Cumbria Constabulary currently has 88 cadets, who volunteered 4661 hours of their time to supporting communities across Cumbria in the last year. The young cadets are supported by 44 voluntary cadet leaders who oversee the five cadet units across the county.

Talking about the evening, Peter McCall comments: “It was lovely to see the latest group of Cumbria Police Cadets make their attestation this evening, in front of many proud parents.

“I would like to congratulate all of our cadets for stepping up to take on this rewarding volunteering role and I am delighted to welcome them to Cumbria Constabulary.

“The scheme helps to provide a strong voice for young people within policing and also gives the cadets the perfect opportunity to learn about policing, make a real contribution in our local communities and take advantage of real opportunities for self-development.

“I am confident that our new cadet recruits will find their role both challenging and rewarding, and I wish them and all our existing cadets, great success.”
