Peter McCall Continues to Fund Victim’s Support ‘Turning the Spotlight Partner’ Programme
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall continues to support the funding for Victim Support’s ‘Turning The Spotlight’ programme and will be joining staff, survivors and volunteers on Wednesday 16th April from 12 – 1pm at the Gateway for Women, Denton Holme, Carlisle.
The ‘Turning the Spotlight’ course offers extensive support to families or individuals who are experiencing or causing domestic abuse or harm. The programme takes a preventative and holistic approach to working with perpetrators, victims and their families, using restorative principals to prevent and reduce incidents of low-level domestic abuse.
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall said: “As Commissioner, putting victims first is at the heart of what I do and I am absolutely committed to ensuring that victims have access to the services they need, when they need them.
“I believe that by continuing to support and fund this programme with perpetrators of domestic abuse and their families, we will increase the chances of breaking the cycle of the offender’s behaviour.
“These courses, alongside the one to one support for those who are experiencing issues within their relationship are vital. Prevention is key, and whatever we can do to prevent and reduce incidents of domestic abuse has got to be a positive step.”
Laraine Carr, Domestic Abuse Services Coordinator comments: “We are delighted that Peter McCall is visiting our Turning the Spotlight Partner Programme in Carlisle. The women are developing lifelong skills to improve their relationships and being given the key messages that their partners are learning on our Healthy Relationships programme.
“The aim is to improve communication and to stop conflict within the family home. We are grateful for the support of the PCC to enable us to provide this valuable service in Cumbria.”
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Dan StQuintin said: “It is encouraging that the Turning the Spotlight programme will receive further funding so we can together help break the cycle of domestic abuse.
“The holistic approach taken via this programme challenges offender behaviour and supports victims and families in an effort to prevent domestic abuse incidents.
“Any step taken to stop the suffering of people within this county is one that we support.”
