Peter McCall Supports Learning Disability Week and Peoples First – Takeover Day

In partnership with ‘Peoples First – Takeover’ day, Peter McCall will be shadowed for the day, as part of Learning Disability Week and inclusion is very much at the heart of this campaign.

The day gives individuals valuable insight and experience of a workplace and organisations also benefit from a fresh perspective in the work place. It provides a great opportunity for people to experience something different, take part in a shadow ‘day in the life’ work experience, enter a competition or be active in a community setting. Trying something new during this week could also encourage people to take up something new on a regular basis.

Peter McCall comments: “I am looking forward to our ‘People’s First – Take Over Day.’  I hope that those who take part will have an enjoyable day but it is also important that we raise awareness that people with learning difficulties have so much to give, skills and knowledge to share and should have real opportunities and feel valued in Cumbria, just like anyone else.

“While people with learning disabilities can sometimes experience barriers to inclusion, we must all realise that they can also make huge contributions to their communities, I am pleased that we can take a small part to take part and look forward to learning from those who take part in our ‘Takeover Day.’

Lindsay Graham, Advocacy Manager at People First Independent Advocacy comments: “Learning Disability Week is a brilliant opportunity to showcase the amazing contribution all people can make to society whilst highlighting the fact that people with a learning disability still do not have equal access to services and their communities.

“We are delighted that Peter McCall is taking part in The People First Takeover by providing a meaningful experience for people to learn about his role and build aspirations for the future.”
