Description
About Cumbria Constabulary
Provide a proportionate response to calls for service to the Constabulary in relation to anti-social behaviour or criminal activity, subsequently investigating any criminal offences.
We will advise and inform any victims of crime as per the code of practice for victims of crime, initially and at varying stages of any investigation, including what victims can expect –key entitlements – from those people dealing with your crime, from first point of contact, which is usually reporting a crime, through to charge and/or outcome, including a court case.
One of the jobs of the criminal justice system is to try and minimise the impacts of crime on victims and witnesses, through providing information, support and help when it is most needed. More often than not, this process starts when the crime is reported, and runs through the investigation, court hearing or trial and, in some cases, well beyond. Very often we work in close co-operation with our local partners, such as Victim Support and the Witness Service located in courts. Witness Care Units have also been brought into operation around the country, usually staffed by a mixture of police and Crown Prosecution Service staff.
